How One Failure Led Me to Build a HealthTech Infrastructure Company

Let’s talk about two of my ventures — NexusData Intelligence and NexaVida Plus.

NexusData Intelligence (NDI) actually started out as a Data-as-a-Service company. That was the plan: deliver data services, build AI solutions, and help organizations grow through better access to data. But somewhere along the way, I found myself leaning more and more into HealthTech.

Why? Because I'd already been in HealthTech before (in fact, I was still in HealthTech at the time) and there were some issues I’d seen firsthand that honestly frustrated me. One day, someone looked me in the eye and asked, “If this problem annoys you so much, why not solve it yourself?” That question stuck with me.

It was the nudge I needed.

First Attempt: An EMR That Brought Everything Together

So I did what most of us do when we’re trying to “solve the problem”, I started building. My first shot? An EMR that could unify patient data from different hospital systems. Sounded like a great idea... until it didn’t work out. 😅

The system failed; not in a dramatic, collapse-everything kind of way, but more in a “this isn’t scalable and won’t work the way I hoped” kind of way. But honestly, I learned so much from that experience. And it didn’t stop me. If anything, it sharpened my thinking.

That failure gave birth to a new idea, and a new venture.

NexaVida Plus: Building HealthTech Infrastructure from the Ground Up

Enter: NexaVida Plus.

“Nexa” means connection in Latin.

“Vida” means life in Spanish.

Put them together and you get Connected Life, or as I like to call it Connected Health — which is exactly what we’re building.

Instead of trying to build a new EMR, I decided to build the infrastructure layer; a secure API platform that connects EMRs, Hospital Information Systems (HIS), Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and more. NexaVida Plus is essentially the pipes and switches powering the health data ecosystem, not another app on top of it.

And the growth has been great so far.

We kicked off the build properly at the start of July 2025.

Now — just four weeks in — we already have:

• A live website
• An MVP ready for deployment
• Conversations with strategic partners
• A promising investment deal nearing close

I’ve brought it back to its original focus: Data & AI Services. Turns out, HealthTech doesn’t just need applications; it needs serious infrastructure. And NDI is in the perfect position to provide just that: helping hospitals, health systems, and even other sectors build with reliable data, smart insights, and scalable tools.

NDI is now doing what it was born to do, and NexaVida Plus is solving the problems that pushed me to become a builder in the first place.

This is how my ‘failure’ turned into clarity. This is how one idea opens the door to another. And this is how we build the future.
